Catwalk on the Wimbledon court: Maria Sharapova vs. Gisela Dulko

Watch out Maria Sharapova, there's a new tennis stylista in town!

Argentine player Gisela Dulko overcame Sharapova, who is still recovering from a shoulder injury, in a rigorous 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 match at Centre Court at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

But the real battle wasn't the intense back-and-forth on the grass court, but the off-court fashion duel. Following the match, the 46th-ranked Dulko was told she had replaced her opponent as the new "Wimbledon darling."

"I've always said I'm not only a tennis player, but also a woman," a blushing Dulko told the UK's Daily Mail in response, adding that her opponent is "a great fighter.

Sharapova, the world’s former No. 1 player who won Wimbledon in 2004, has been known as much for her Grand Slam titles as her style, most notably wearing Swarovski crystal-embellished dresses during the U.S. Open in Flushing. The 22-year-old, 6-foot-2 Russian has her own Nike design team she meets with about 30 times a year, she revealed to The Times of London earlier this week.

I have six pinnacle outfits a year, with four of them showcased at the Grand Slams," she told The Times. “Under the floodlights, the Centre Court becomes my own catwalk.”

But while she's been stylin’ in her Nike duds, her 24-year-old Argentine competitor, who's nearly a head shorter than Sharapova at 5-foot-7, is clearly challenging her fashionista title.

At Wednesday’s match, Dulko, outfitted by Lacoste, wore a figure-hugging dress with slits on the skirt that revealed boy shorts underneath. Meanwhile, Sharapova, clad per usual in Nike, wore a dress with off-white criss-cross detailing and a flared skirt that swirled toward her hips as she swung her racket.
